At the beginning of his visit to Istanbul to represent Egypt at the OECD Critical Minerals Forum, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to discuss enhancing cooperation in the mining sector, building on previous discussions between officials from the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA) and the Turkish mining company "OZ," as well as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in May 2025.

They also discussed a proposal to form joint working groups from both sides to study opportunities for deepening cooperation in mineral exploration and prospecting. This would be achieved through the exchange of expertise in regulatory frameworks, licensing systems, and geological survey technologies, while simultaneously exploring investment opportunities to maximize the added value of mineral resources.

They also reviewed cooperation opportunities in energy and gas in the East Mediterranean region, emphasizing the optimal utilization of the infrastructure in both countries, in order to support energy security and regional integration, leveraging the strategic locations of both Egypt and Türkiye.

The two ministers exchanged views on energy transition, the hydrogen industry, and low-carbon energy solutions to support the implementation of energy transition strategies in both nations.

They also discussed energy efficiency policies and sustainable development within the framework of Egypt Vision 2030 and the Turkish Energy Roadmap, in addition to emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation between private sector entities in both countries to implement joint projects in the mining and energy sectors.
