Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, followed up the drilling operations for a new well at the Nargis Natural Gas Field in the Mediterranean Sea, as part of ongoing efforts to develop the discovered field. The project is being developed by Chevron as the main operator, in partnership with Eni, as well as Mubadala Energy and Tharwa Petroleum Company.
The Minister reviewed the launch of drilling activities aboard the drilling vessel Stena Forth, arrived in Egypt a few days ago to begin operations at the field. He was accompanied by several senior officials from the petroleum sector, as well as representatives from Chevron and Eni.
The Minister asserted that the drilling of the new well is part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to encourage international energy companies to accelerate the development of untapped gas discoveries, including the Narges Field, and bring them into the development and production portfolio. He highlighted that such projects will have a positive impact on increasing domestic natural gas production and reducing import bill, one of the Ministry's key strategic objectives.
The Minister commended the field's partnership consortium, particularly Chevron as the operator and Eni, praising their commitment to working closely with Egypt's Petroleum Sector within a collaborative framework that has successfully addressed operational challenges. He pointed out that this cooperation enabled the launch of drilling activities at the field through coordinated efforts between the Ministry, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Chevron, and Eni, with the objective of advancing the development of the Nargis Field and accelerating plans to bring its gas resources into production.
