Bilateral Energy Talks Highlight Strategic Partnership Between Egypt and Greece

On 17th June 2025, as part of his official visit to Athens to participate in the "Energy Transition Summit: Eastern Mediterranean and Southeast Europe," held on June 17–18, 2025, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a bilateral meeting with Nikos Tsafos, the Greek Deputy Minister of Energy.

During the meeting, asserted on strengthening cooperation in the field of energy. The two officials discussed the latest developments in the work of the technical working groups established under the MoU signed between Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Greece's Ministry of Environment and Energy. This memorandum covers cooperation in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG), bilateral interconnection for the transport and trade of natural gas, and enhanced collaboration in exploration and production activities, contributing to the optimal utilization of oil and gas resources in the Mediterranean region.

They discussed ways to enhance the integration of energy infrastructure, capitalizing on both countries' advanced LNG liquefaction and regasification capabilities, for mutual benefit. Furthermore, both sides reviewed the latest developments in cooperation on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), as well as their respective efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce carbon emissions from oil and gas production—contributing to the achievement of an optimal energy mix.
