The 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF)

On 16th January 2020, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, headed the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the EMGF, hosted by Cairo, with the participation of the Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, the Israeli Minister of Energy, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Development in Italy, Palestinian President's Senior Advisor for Economic affairs, representative of the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy, Head of the European Strategic Sectors and foreign affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, as well as the EU's Ambassador to Cairo and the World Bank representative.

During the meeting, El Molla asserted that the EMGF's countries are responsible for cooperation to overcome the massive changes and challenges confronting the region in order to continue developing the natural resources, through the collaborative efforts of the participant countries for the ultimate welfare of countries and peoples.

El Molla added that the Forum contributes to alleviating political tensions, as well as enhancing peace and stability through a successful model of regional and economic integration among the Forum's countries, proving that cooperation is the key to gain fruit.

The Minister mentioned that the Forum's countries were able to implement a clear road map, created since the beginning of the Forum's meetings, which contributed to finalize the Statute and ensure the formal establishment of the Forum. He clarified that the Forum's activities started effectively parallel to the establishment procedures, in order to reach the aspirations, making best exploitation for gas resources of the region. Accordingly, the Gas Industry Advisory Committee, (GIAC), was established last November, as a permanent platform, where the private sector entities participate with their views, recommendations and studies that enhance cooperation and help achieve EMGF objectives.

El Molla affirmed that the Forum's fruitful collaboration with the US, the EU and the World Bank, and their support, further emphasize their interest and belief in EMGF's role creating value and benefit for the whole region.

Finally, the Minister asserted Egypt's and the participant countries' belief in achieving more tangible results in 2020, that will guarantee a sustainable bright future for our region.
