On the 16th of August, 2025, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Major General Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, Governor of Suez, at the Governorate's headquarters to discuss joint cooperation between the petroleum sector and the governorate in various domains.
During the meeting, Eng. Karim Badawi asserted the pivotal role played by Suez Governorate, with its key petroleum industrial facilities, in the second pillar of the Ministry's strategy, for optimizing the utilization of oil refineries, petrochemical plants, and existing infrastructure.
The Minister pointed out that the purpose of his visit to Suez is to bolster the refineries, as well as to provide the necessary support for achieving the Ministry's ambitious medium-term vision of reaching 100% operational efficiency at the refineries, to boost the utilization of the available potentials, for achieving a strong return for both the national economy and Suez. He also stressed that the significance of HSE inside companies, as a core pillar of the Ministry's strategy.
Within the framework of CSR, the Minister highlighted that the petroleum sector has contributed about EGP 30 million to Suez CSR projects over the past two years, asserting the Ministry's aspiration for full coordination with the governorate through the petroleum sector's High Committee for CSR, to direct these contributions toward the priorities set by the governorate, ensuring the greatest benefit to Suez citizens.
This support included funding for micro and small enterprises as well as initiatives for people of determination, underscoring the sector's dedication to its community.
For his part, the Governor highlighted the significance of utilizing the "Suez - German" Welding Center to organize technical training programs, in coordination with the Ministry to qualify technical cadres. He also stressed the key role of Egypt's petroleum product marketing companies within the fuel stations network, expressing the governorate's readiness to cooperate with Misr Petroleum, Cooperation Petroleum, and Wataniya to establish modern stations in Suez, supported by diverse branded service centers.
