On 4th May 2026, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, received Dan Moore Global Vice President Finished Lubricants at ExxonMobil, along with his accompanying delegation including Maria Maranchi, Europe, Africa & Middle East Finished Lubricants Director; Eng. Amr Abou Eita, Chairman & Managing Director, ExxonMobil Egypt; and Eng. Youssef Hafez, Board Member, ExxonMobil Egypt. The meeting was also attended by Eng. Wael Rezk, EGPC Deputy CEO for Refining and Manufacturing, and Eng. Ayman Abdel Badie, Deputy CEO for Transport and Distribution of Petroleum Products, and Eng. Ibrahim Motawea, EGPC deputy CEO for planning and projects.
During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues to deepen cooperation between the Petroleum Sector and ExxonMobil in the production, distribution, and marketing of high-performance synthetic greases. They also reviewed potential collaboration opportunities in petroleum refining, in light of the Ministry's ambitious plans to modernize and upgrade refinery efficiency.
The two sides further explored opportunities to expand activities related to the production and distribution of premium-quality lubricants, leveraging ExxonMobil's strong manufacturing base in Egypt through its facilities in Alexandria and 10th of Ramadan City, thereby enhancing its capability to meet both domestic demand and export market requirements.
ExxonMobil affirmed that Egypt represents a strategic market for the company and a promising regional hub for expanding exports to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, leveraging its advanced infrastructure and strong manufacturing capabilities. They noted that locally produced lubricants are currently exported to more than 30 countries, with plans to increase this number to 45 countries in the near future.
The company also expressed its desire to increase its investments in manufacturing, technology, and the production of high-quality synthetic lubricants, emphasizing its pride in Egyptian talent, which serves as a key pillar in managing its operations within Egypt and across several regional markets.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination between their respective teams in the coming period, with the ministry reaffirming its readiness to provide all necessary support to expand the company's activities, thereby strengthening Egypt's position as a regional hub for manufacturing and exports.
