On 7th Dec.2021, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, participated in the 23rd Petroleum World Congress in Houston, USA, considered as one of the most prestigious international gatherings for petroleum and energy parties worldwide.
During the opening Ministerial plenary session "Future Energy Markets", which was moderated by Tor Fjaeran, President of the World Petroleum Council, El Molla participated with David M. Turk, Deputy Secretary, Department of Energy, USA.
He expressed that Egypt has a great responsibility and a prominent role in this regard, as he noted that Egypt will host the Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh next year. He emphasized that Egypt started preparing for the Summit in cooperation with a number of partners, led by the US.
Egypt asserts its commitment to Paris climate agreement, as it works, regionally and internationally, to effectuate the discussed issues at COP26 in Glasgow to bolster the global trend to net zero emissions and sustainable development.
In this regard, El Molla affirmed Egypt's efforts through the EMGF to support energy transition and combat climate change, noting that the Forum plays a prominent regional role in bolstering the pivotal role of natural gas as a transition fuel in energy transition, through its ambitious plans as the EMGF's long term strategy, aims at concentrating on energy transition, as well as reducing emissions to combat climate change.
The Minister mentioned that fossil fuel would still play a prominent role in the world energy mix during the energy transitional period.
Moreover, El Molla noted that Egypt started implementation of a number of distinctive initiatives to support emissions reductions, as hydrogen usage, CCUS "carbon capture, use and storage" to secure clean fossil fuel production, emissions reduction, greenhouse emissions, as well as the decarbonization initiatives projects and energy efficiency projects, noting that Egypt intends to highlight these initiatives at COP27 next year.
