The Ministry of Petroleum has developed an integrated plan to develop and upgrade the efficiency of the existing refineries to cope with the increase and continuous change in the local consumption patterns. Moreover, the development and upgrading of the Egyptian refineries achieves the strategic goal of transforming Egypt into a regional center for trading gas and oil taking advantage of its privileged location in the middle of the world's energy-producing and consuming markets.
The past ten years have witnessed the operation of 10 new projects in the field of refining and manufacturing at a total investment cost of about $ 8 billion with the aim of increasing the quantities of diesel, butane and gasoline to cover the country's needs and reduce imports
Moreover, a number of refining projects are currently being implemented with a total investment of about $ 4.8 billion, the most important of which are: The Gas Oil production complex at ANOPC in Assiut, and the expansions of the Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Company.
