H.E. the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced the Egyptian petroleum sector Energy Efficiency Strategy 2022-2035 during the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) held in Sharm El-Sheikh. This strategy aims to achieve the petroleum sector's vision of "supporting the continuous economic improvement of energy efficiency in the petroleum sector while achieving Egypt's 2030 sustainability goals and contributing to energy security and carbon removal."
This strategy consists of two interconnected and overlapping phases. The first stage (2022 – 2027) aims to achieve a 10% saving in energy consumption by the year 2027, meanwhile the second phase (2025 - 2035) aims to achieve a 18% saving in the level of energy consumption by the year 2035 (the national goal).
The strategy encompasses forty-eight objectives to ensure sustainable improvement in energy efficiency. An action plan and timetable were prepared. Subsequently, a strategy task force from the Petroleum Sector experts was formed for the strategy implementation.
