The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, through its affiliated companies, has implemented a total of 340 measures and projects aimed at energy conservation and efficiency improvement within the sector. These efforts have resulted in an annual cost savings of $135.5 million and an emissions reduction of 1.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent per year.

The Energy Efficiency Capacity Building (The energy efficiency component within the project to rehabilitate young and medium leaders in the petroleum sector)
The European Union EU supported the Egyptian ministry of petroleum efforts to implement energy efficiency projects and initiatives, through "Egypt supports the technical and financial sustainability of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Sectors" program which:
·Provided 282 training programs for over 240 engineers in diverse energy efficiency and human skills development domains. The trainees were evaluated, and top performers were selected for advanced programs, including:
-top 18 engineers went on a site visit to the French Petroleum Institute IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFP) and Total Energies site in Dunkirk, France.
-Forty-five engineers completed the 'Certified Energy Manager' program from the Association of Energy Engineers and the 'Train the Trainer'.
·providing training programs for 55 technicians
·Conducted EE Managers workshops for about 20 directors of energy efficiency departments in various sector companies, the delivery of training programs was completed on September 2022.

Several training programs were also implemented using the latest simulation systems, and a field visit was organized to Japan for 9 individuals from the petroleum sector with the aim of learning about policies, services and technologies for improving energy efficiency and rationalization in Japan within a capacity building project in the field of energy efficiency and rationalization in cooperation with the Japan Cooperation Organization. International (JICA).
The Center of Excellence for Energy Transition
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources attaches utmost importance to the development of the human element as one of the most important reasons for success and to ensure continuous improvement in the efficiency of energy use in the petroleum sector and all other energy-consuming sectors. In this context, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two companies, ENPPI and EPROM, to establish a "Center of Excellence for Improving Energy Efficiency." "Energy and Operational Performance" during the EGYPS 2022 conference under the auspices of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The Ministry of Petroleum, in cooperation with JICA, completed all the preparatory work to establish the Center of Excellence for Energy Efficiency, which included the preparation, vision and objectives of the center, its establishment plan, and the list of services that it will provide. The center aims to bridge the gap between theoretical training and practical application in industry, and to provide a number of services to improve energy efficiency in all energy sectors in Egypt and Africa. Services provided by the center include:
·Specialized training programs utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, simulation, and virtual reality.
·Hands-on training on small equipment and simulation models
·Implementation of technical energy audits and establishment of energy management systems following standards.
·Conducting economic feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects.
·Support for development and technology, including setting energy efficiency standards, energy consumption analysis, and the application of new and renewable energy sources.
-Initial training programs for the center's staff were conducted in October 2022 with the collaboration of project consultants and experts from Japan.
-The official opening of the center was held in the presence of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and the Head of the JICA Office in Egypt.

Digital transformation
A database has been established to monitor energy consumption across companies within the sector. This database enables continuous tracking of energy consumption and identifies energy-intensive companies, initiating projects to optimize their energy usage.
