Minister of Petroleum Receives his Lebanese Counterpart to Discuss Joint Cooperation

On 31st January 2019, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, received Mr. Cesar Abi Khalil, Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon and the accompanying delegation. During the meeting, they discussed the most significant topics that contribute to bolstering joint cooperation between both countries in oil and gas domain.
El Molla highlighted the strong relations between Egypt and Lebanon, that bolster joint cooperation between both countries. Moreover, he mentioned Egypt’s readiness to provide support in various oil and gas industry domains in Lebanon. They also discussed training the Lebanese cadres, in the Egyptian training centers.
On the other hand, the Lebanese Minister of Energy affirmed his country’s interest in resuming pumping the Egyptian gas to Lebanon, within the framework of the Egyptian - Lebanese gas exporting contract, signed in 2009; and it was agreed upon reviewing the technical, economic and commercial terms of the signed contract.
During the meeting, the Lebanese Minister reviewed the upstream activity status, clarifying that the first International bid round for exploration was launched and awarded to Total, and the first well to be drilled before the end of this year. He added that preparations for offering a second International bid round are underway, in the framework of its plan to intensify the upstream operations, in the light of good prospects of the Lebanese offshore areas.
