On 16th of December 2017, Eng. Tarek El Molla, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced, from Port-said, the start of the experimental operation of gas pumping from the offshore wells in Zohr field to the new offshore station in El Gamil region in Port-said to natural gas treatment and pumping it in the national gas network with an initial production rate about 350 million cubic feet of gas per day. That is after the success of the technical operation tests for the processing units and the gas transmission lines from the field’s well to the processing station.
El Molla asserted that this event represents the game changer in the history of global gas industry in general and the Egyptian gas industry in particular. That is after the success of putting the first production of Zohr Field on the production map in an unprecedented record time compared to the major gas discoveries similar, in the countries of the world.
El Molla explained that by the completion of the first phase of this project which planned in June 2018, the production will reach gradually to more than one billion cubic feet of gas per day, which will positively contribute to achieve self-sufficiency of natural gas and ease the burden on the State’s budget and reduce the import bill. The minister added that once this phase is completed, the second phase of the project will start. This phase is planned to be completed by the end of 2019 with the completion of all phases of the project to 2.7 billion cubic feet gas per day.
