The Azeri President, Ilham Aliyev met Eng. Sameh Fahmi, Minister of Petroleum, and the accompanying delegation on 6-8 July 2010, where he expressed his sincere appreciation to President Hosni Mubarak and renewed his invitation to President Mubarak to visit Azerbaijan as soon as possible. Eng. Fahmi transferred the greetings of President Mubarak to the President of Azerbaijan.
During his visit, Eng. Sameh Fahmi held wide-ranging discussions with Mr. Natig Aliyev ,Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Mr. Abdullayev, Chairman of the Azerbaijani National Oil Co. (SOCAR), including the proposed joint cooperation domains between both countries, which comprise the field of refining Azeri crude oil in the Egyptian refineries and its marketing through the Egyptian facilities and infrastructure, which include SUMED pipelines, main storage tanks to link between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea areas to reach the targeted Asian markets. Joint cooperation domains in the field of natural gas industry were emphasized ,where marketing the Azeri gas via the Egyptian gas export pipelines extended to the Arab States and the best monetization of the available capacity in the liquefaction plants in Damietta and Idku were discussed , contributing to maximizing Egypt's role as a regional hub for oil and natural gas trade.
The Minister added that they discussed opportunities for Azeri Petroleum companies to participate in exploration and development of oil and gas fields in Egypt and the Egyptian contracting Petroleum companies for the implementation of oil projects in Azerbaijan, also discussions included training and development of human cadres and exchanging petroleum experiences between both countries to keep pace with the latest technologies in oil and gas industry .
It was agreed upon forming a working group of experts of both countries to develop plans and schedules to activate the strategic partnership for mutual benefit, bolster and strengthen cooperation.
During his visit, Eng. Fahmi held joint talks with the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Shaheen Mustafayev , where they discussed boosting economic relations in oil and gas domains to contribute to giving a continuous push and opening broader prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The accompanying delegation of the Minister of Petroleum included Eng. Abdel-Alim Taha, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum for Production, Eng. Mahmoud Nazim, First Undersecretary of the Ministry for Petroleum Affairs, Eng. Mahmoud Latif , Chairman of EGAS , Eng. Ahmed Ashmawy, Chairman of the Minister's Technical Office in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador Saber Mansour, Ambassador of Egypt to Azerbaijan.
